Nick Miles is just another anonymous drone who works at Sardonyx Inc. Lately, he has noticed something very strange. Every night at three in the morning, Nick blacks out and does not wake until four. During this time, he has no idea of what he does. However, one thing is clear...he has been leaving his apartment.

One night, Nick decides to find out what is going on, and he waits for the fateful hour to arrive. Three o'clock comes...

...and he wakes up, a pistol in one hand, a phone in the other. A voice on the phone asks who he is. When Nick tells his name, the other line disconnects. Then Nick sees a body in the corner. The man has been shot twice. Nick inspects the gun, and sees that two bullets have been fired. A briefcase is on the table, but he can't open it. A note on the briefcase tells him not to leave. Confused, Nick makes his escape, seconds before several men in black overcoats arrive.

Now a mysterious man has told Nick that in twenty three hours when he blacks out, he will never wake up again. The men in the trenchcoats are after him, and time is running out. Nick has to find out what is happening to him, and he's on a deadline.

23 Hours is Piranha Picture's attempt at creating an old-style noir thriller, while keeping the signature action scenes and stunts. As far as we know, there was a paucity of kung-fu action in the thrillers of old. Piranha Pictures has taken it on itself to rectify that sorry situation, as a public service. In a departure of the usual Piranha Pictures style, this film is played more seriously than the others, and was intened to be a fairly realistic thriller. Director Eric Thornett wanted to make a detective story, but he did not want all of the usual cliches of such stories, so he followed the template of many a noir film, where the hero is the victim, and must discover the truth.
